Prices and Procedures

Some common questions

Q. How do I go about commisioning a portrait ? A. Contact me by telephone or e-mail to make an appointment to visit me in my studio where you can view my work, discuss the procedure, and then decide whether you want to go ahead.
Q. I want to commision a portrait of my child. Will he or she have to sit for his portrait ? A. No. When painting or drawing children I always work from photographs. Often this is the best approach for adults too.
Q. Do I need to supply a photograph ? A. No, not ususally. Where possible I always take my own photographs. In some cases I will consider working from an existing photograph, but it needs to be of a certain quality.
Q. How long does a portrait take to complete ? A. Difficult to be precise. It depends on the size and complexity of the project, but in most cases you will not have to wait more than a few weeks.
Q. Is there any particular type of person or age group which makes a good subject for a portrait ? A. No. Good portraits can be made of all kinds and ages of people from the very elderly to small babies.
Q. How much will it cost ? A. See below for a rough guide to prices but remember that prices may vary for projects of unusual complexity or simplicity.
